Doris Kapner | Art Queens Society

Doris Kapner (b. 1971, she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in ceramics and printmaking. The daughter of German immigrants and raised in New York, she earned her B.F.A. in Sculpture from Purchase College in 1994 and has worked in art galleries, as a TIG welder, police officer, homemaker, loss prevention manager, visual merchandiser, yoga teacher, and art instructor. This fluctuation between typical male and female roles informs her work. Kapner began working in ceramics in 2015, creating undergarments, dresses, and handkerchiefs, often adding needlework and crochet, influenced by her upbringing. Since 2021, she has been exploring the original Grimm’s Fairy Tales through sculpture and printmaking as a selected artist of the Studios at McColl Center program in Charlotte, North Carolina culminating in a solo exhibition, A Grimm Tale, in December 2023.Kapner was featured in the Arts to Hearts Project Studio Visit Book Vol-1, and The Jealous Curator’s Member Spotlight. She was selected twice for the Blumenthal’s Artists in the Theater program, nominated as Best Sculptor for Queen City Nerve’s Best in the Nest 2023, and received an Honorable Mention in Create Magazine’s The Women's Issue 2020.Doris Kapner is currently based in Charlotte, NC but dreams of the mountains.
