Heather Albright

I’m Heather Albright!I grew up in the small ski town of Mammoth Lakes, CA, where I was captivated by a love for nature and exploration. I found a passion for backcountry skiing, rock climbing, and all things outside. At a young age, I experienced life changing childhood trauma as well as constant and increasing head pain leading to brain surgery in my teenage years. Undergoing what seemed to be insurmountable hardships at such a young age, cultivated a strong sense of self-assuredness, persevering resilience, and unshakable imagination in me. I love capturing all the colors, intricacies, and patterns of the big and small. Diving deep and exploring my inner world by using creativity to heal, grow, and better understand myself brings me life. Welcome to a glimpse into my world.

Heather Albright is an oil and gouache painter based out of Tempe, Arizona. She has a BA from San Diego State University and studied abroad for her senior year in Italy at Accademia di Belle Arte di Firenze. Her art has been collected internationally with a piece residing at The Museum of Contemporary Art of Florina in Greece. She has participated in numerous exhibitions in Italy and California and has been awarded an honorable mention at the Del Mar Fair in San Diego.

Although Heather has used creating as an outlet of self-discovery and exploration from a young age through crocheting, sculpting, fabric making, and drawing, her passion for traditional mediums was awakened in 2010 during her first fundamental drawing class.

Heather’s work explores three main ideas; the intricacies of plants and flowers; the grandeur of mountain landscapes; and, her internal landscape where she explores and processes past childhood traumas and pivotal experiences from her life.

Even though the subject of each work ranges, the golden thread connecting them together as one is the compulsion to understand. At first, what seemed to be opposites colliding has turned out to be coexisting realities of hope & despair, calm & chaos, light & dark blending together into captivating paintings. She seeks to capture and express the complexity of ambivalence. The tension between experiencing two or more contradictory emotions simultaneously moves and compels her. Heather is learning how to embrace the complexity and beauty found in these juxtapositions and contradictions – pulling us forward and together as we better understand ourselves.
