Melissa Manning Borland

Melissa has a BFA in television and film production from USF and worked as a production assistant dressing sets for both national and local production companies for television shows and ads in 2000.

She is self-taught and began her painting practice three years ago in 2018. This year 2021, she has presented her art in local art markets and juried and curated art festivals in the up and coming art scene in Tampa, St.Petersburg, and Sarasota regions. She currently has work displayed in group exhibitions in St.Pete Artworks gallery, Beach House 5317 in Gulfport,FL, Carrollwood Cultural Arts Center in Tampa, Manattee Art Center in Bradenton, Atetlier De Sosi and the historic Morean Arts Center in St.Petersburg,FL.

Melissa’s art draws from her childhood growing up in Florida with Cuban-American and Irish influences. She has worked for the last 7 years in the nursing home setting on the occupational therapy team. Here Melissa sees every beautiful and painful aspect of life and her artwork explores themes of fading beauty, nostalgia, and feelings of isolation, abandonment, and seclusion. Her work captures the viewer with vibrant colors and rich textures that beckon the viewer to immerse themselves in her beautiful historical Floridian landscapes and abstract dreamscapes.
