It was May of 2021. Samantha left it all behind - the regular paychecks, benefits, summers off and the professional dress code. She now spends her time at an easel…usually in jeans and a t-shirt, with paint on her hands. From her sunny home studio in Tennessee, Samantha works to bring the beauty of the human experience to life. She spends time examining nature, her past experiences and the perspectives that shape us all. Her work is a unique blend of this multi-faceted human experience. She pours her spirit, passion, and unwavering hope for good into each painting she creates. She is still every bit as excited about what the future holds for her art career as she was when she exited the school building for the final time almost three years ago. As far as Samantha’s approach to painting goes - it began as realistic and subdued and has now morphed into a bright, crisp, contemporary style. Currently, Samantha focuses more on incorporating abstract elements alongside the realistic subjects of her paintings. Color has always been an integral part of Samantha’s work, along with nature and nostalgia. She has been enamored by artists like Van Gogh and Wayne Thiebaud since childhood. Their use of color has influenced her practice of often including intense, exaggerated colors within her work.The first solo exhibit of Samantha’s paintings took place in 2018. Since then, Samantha has gone on to create multiple painting collections. She has had several solo exhibits, been the recipient of a large arts grant, and created commissioned art for a well-known U.S. brand. Samantha is active in her community where she teaches adult painting classes, participates in local arts events and has created public art pieces for the community to enjoy.

Inspiration for my paintings is typically derived from nature and nostalgia. This is often combined with elements or objects in my paintings that point to the views and perspectives that shape our experiences. I enjoy deciding which elements would be more interesting in an abstract format and which realistic details would enhance the piece. Showcasing the flow of lines and patterns within a composition is one of my favorite parts or the process…as well as finding ways to communicate my thoughts through imagery. It is always my goal to create a feeling of excitement, growth, and hope within my paintings.
